JOSH HAILEY

Josh Hailey is full time mixed media artist and photographer based out of New Orleans, LA. Born and raised in Mississippi, Josh finds joy in making art from the ground up in an up-cycled and folkish approach. Graduating from Mississippi State in 2003 Josh started his own studio and began blending his love of photography, ceramics, and architecture. In 2012 Josh embarked on a “art documentary” he entitled Photamerica where he went to all 50 states over a 2 year period and made art, interviews, and music videos from every State. This process led him into discovering places and trying to weave an artistic narrative through the things he photographed while visiting. Josh met Tamara and Donna of Commerce Gallery through a mutual friend and, artist Patrick Puckett, this June and was chosen as the first artist to participate in their new residency program at The Brock House. Over a 10 day period in September, Josh has been painting and layering many Lockhart scenes in dimensional matte strokes over layers of gold. He is excited to also showcase some of his newer location based works with historic maps of Lockhart. Playing and layering old maps and adding mixed media and interactive elements of gold have been of special interest to the artist lately while expanding on his Photamerica project through these location based pieces. Josh has lived in his favorite city of New Orleans for the last 8 years and is currently making pieces that will support mutual aid groups after Hurricane Ida.
